Anthropic Launches Claude Opus 4.8 With a 1 Million Token Context Window
The new flagship model extends Claude's context window eightfold and adds faster tool-calling for agentic workflows, Anthropic says.
Anthropic has released Claude Opus 4.8, the latest version of its flagship model, with a context window of up to one million tokens — eight times larger than the previous Opus generation. The company says the expanded window lets Claude reason over entire codebases, lengthy contracts, or multi-document research sets in a single request.
Alongside the larger context window, Anthropic says Opus 4.8 brings faster tool-calling latency and improved reliability for long-running agentic tasks, building on the enterprise agent tooling introduced in Opus 4.5. The model is rolling out to API and Claude.ai subscribers this week.
