Google Brings Gemini 3 Pro On-Device Reasoning to Pixel and Android Flagships

The Verge

A system update lets Gemini 3 Pro run multi-step reasoning entirely on-device on the latest Pixel and Snapdragon flagship phones.

Google has begun rolling out a system update that brings a distilled version of Gemini 3 Pro to recent Pixel phones and other Android flagships with sufficient on-device compute. The update enables multi-step reasoning — such as planning a multi-stop itinerary or summarizing a long thread — without a round trip to Google's servers.

Google says on-device processing improves response latency and lets the assistant work in airplane mode, while more complex requests will continue to be routed to the cloud-hosted Gemini 3 Pro model.
